एकान्तिनो यस्य न कञ्चनार्थं
वाञ्छन्ति ये वै भगवत्प्रपन्नाः ।
अत्यद्भ‍ुतं तच्चरितं सुमङ्गलं
गायन्त आनन्दसमुद्रमग्नाः ॥
तमक्षरं ब्रह्म परं परेश-
मव्यक्तमाध्यात्मिकयोगगम्यम् ।
अतीन्द्रियं सूक्ष्ममिवातिदूर-
मनन्तमाद्यं परिपूर्णमीडे ॥

ekāntino yasya na kañcanārthaṁ
vāñchanti ye vai bhagavat-prapannāḥ |
atyadbhutaṁ tac-caritaṁ sumaṅgalaṁ
gāyanta ānanda-samudra-magnāḥ ||
tam akṣaraṁ brahma paraṁ pareśam
avyaktam ādhyātmika-yoga-gamyam |
atīndriyaṁ sūkṣmam ivātidūram
anantam ādyaṁ paripūrṇam īḍe ||

“[Gajendra to Śrī Bhagavān:] I praise him, the Supreme Brahman, the Supreme Īśa—inexhaustible, unmanifest, knowable by means of the yoga related to the Self, beyond the senses, as though minute, very far off, infinite, original, and fully complete—from whom the one-pointed, those who have taken full shelter in Bhagavān and are immersed in an ocean of bliss by singing of his highly astonishing and most auspicious activities, desire no object whatsoever.”

Commentary

bhagavat-prapannā ye ekāntinaḥ bhagavad-bhakteṣu madhye ye ekānta-bhaktā ity arthaḥ | yad vā bhagavadbhir brahmādibhir muktair vā prapannā āśritā ataeva te tasya bhagavataś caritaṁ gāyantaḥ santas tata eva ānanda-rasa-samudra-magnāḥ santaḥ yasya artham aiśvaryādikaṁ, yad vā yasyeti yasmāt kañcanārthaṁ mokṣādikaṁ śrī-vaikuṇṭha-lokam api na vāñchanti | kutaḥ sumaṅgalaṁ parama-sukhātmakam atyadbhutañ ca anirvacanīya-māhātmyam iti | evam ekāntināṁ māhātmyaṁ lakṣaṇañ coktam |

“‘The one-pointed, those who have taken full shelter in Bhagavān’ refers to those who are one-pointed bhaktas among bhaktas of Bhagavān. Alternately, [the one-pointed are] they who are taken shelter of by bhagavats, that is, by [the devas led by] Brahmā and so forth, or by the liberated (muktas). Therefore, singing of his, that is, Bhagavān’s, activities and thus being immersed in an ocean of bliss, they [i.e., one-pointed bhaktas] do not desire his wealth (artha), that is, his aiśvarya and so on, or, alternately, [they do not desire] from him any object whatsoever: mokṣa and so on, or even Śrī Vaikuṇṭhaloka. Why? [Bhagavān’s activities of which they sing are] ‘Most auspicious’ (sumaṅgalam), that is, filled with the greatest happiness, and ‘highly astonishing’ (atyadbhutam), that is, possessed of ineffable greatness. In this way, the greatness and the characteristics of the one-pointed (ekāntis) is stated.”

“‘Knowable by means of the yoga related to the Self’ (ādhyātmika-yoga-gamyam) means knowable only by means of that yoga known as bhakti related to the Self, that is, to him [i.e., Śrī Bhagavān] specifically.”

aikāntika-bhakta-svabhāvas tu mādṛśaḥ paśuḥ kathaṁ prāpsyantīti dyotayan niṣkāma-bhakta-sevyatvam āha—ekāntino yasya bhaktā na kañcanāpy arthaṁ vāñchanti tam īḍe ity uttareṇānvayaḥ | kuto na vāñchanti bhagavat-prapannāḥ bhagavat-prapatti-mahāsampattyaiva paripūrṇā ity arthaḥ | teṣāṁ sukhaṁ sarvato’py adhikam ity āha—atyadbhutam ity-ādi |

“How shall an animal like me attain the disposition (svabhāva) of a one-pointed bhakta? [It feels impossible for me] Thus, illuminating the worthiness of worship of a desireless bhakta [i.e., thus he praises such one-pointed bhaktas so as to express his wish to render service unto them and thereby be blessed to acquire such disposition himself], he says, ‘I praise him whose one-pointed bhaktas does not desire any object whatsoever.’ This is the syntactical connection with the latter [verse]. Why don’t they desire [anything]? [They are who have] Taken full shelter in Bhagavān, that is, they are completely fulfilled just by the great fortune (sampatti) of taking full shelter (prapatti) in Bhagavān. This is the meaning. Their happiness is greater even than all [others]. Thus, he says ‘highly astonishing’ (atyadbhutam) and so forth [i.e., the ocean of bliss into which the one-pointed bhaktas fully sheltered in Bhagavān become immersed produces a happiness in them greater than any other form of happiness that can be experienced anywhere by anyone else by any means and thus such bhaktas have no desire for anything else].”
