(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 11.14.27; cited in Bhakti Sandarbha: 278)

[Śrī Kṛṣṇa to Uddhava:] “A mind meditating upon the sense objects becomes greatly attached to the sense objects; a mind continuously remembering me becomes completely absorbed in me specifically.”

Commentary

tasmād bhaktir evābhyasanīyety upasaṁharann āha—viṣayān iti dvābhyām |
(Krama-sandarbha-ṭīkā)

“Therefore, bhakti specifically is to be practiced. Thus, for the purpose of summarizing, he speaks with two [verses]: viṣayān … [i.e., he speaks SB 11.14.27–28].”

tādṛśa-śravaṇa-kīrtana-smaraṇādi-niṣṭhānāṁ tad-bhaktānāṁ cittaṁ tvayi kīdṛśaṁ syāt? ity ata āha—viṣayān iti | viṣaya-dhyānāsaktaṁ cittaṁ yathā viṣaya-mādhurya-nimagnaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ, tathaiva madīya-dhyānāsaktaṁ man-mādhurya-mātra-nimagnaṁ syāt |
(Sārārtha-darśinī-ṭīkā)

“‘The mind of his bhaktas, who have fixity in such hearing, praising, remembering, and so forth [of him], shall become of what nature?’ Thus [i.e., to answer this question], he says viṣayān … [i.e., he speaks this verse]. As a mind attached to meditation on the sense objects is seen to be absorbed in the sweetness of the sense objects, so exactly one attached to meditation upon me shall become absorbed solely in my sweetness.”
