(Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu: 2.5.131; cited in Caitanya-caritāmṛta: 2.23.100)
“This Bhagavad-rasa is in all cases difficult to comprehend for non-bhaktas. It is relished only by bhaktas whose all is his [i.e., Bhagavān’s] lotus feet.”
Commentary
asya bhakti-rasasyāsvādas tu bhāvya-bhāvaka-bhaktair āsvādyaḥ syān na tu pūrvokta-prājñair apīty āha—sarvathaiveti |
(Durgama-saṅgamanī-ṭīkā)
“The taste of this bhakti-rasa, however, can become relishable for bhāvya- and bhāvaka-bhaktas [i.e., the direct companions of Śrī Bhagavān in his līlās (bhāvya-bhaktas) and the bhaktas in whom bhāva- or prema-bhakti has become manifest (bhāvaka-bhaktas)], and not, rather, even for the aforementioned prājñas [i.e., those mentioned in BRS 2.5.123 who are conversant in the intent (tātparya) of the rasa-śāstras but devoid of bhāva-bhakti]. Thus, the author says sarvathaiva … [i.e., he states this verse].”
