(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 3.7.12)

“By the favor of Vāsudeva—[that is, by] the practice of bhakti to Bhagavān accompanied by observance of desistance (nivṛtti-dharma)—that [i.e., the nature of the non-self, meaning, identification with the adjuncts of māyā, delusion, etc.] indeed gradually disappears here [i.e., in this world].”

Commentary

Śrī Jīvapāda explains that “observance of desistance” (nivṛtti-dharma) refers to a disposition free from desire (niṣkāma-svabhāva) and that “gradually” (śanaiḥ) indicates that delusion disappears in accord with a gradation in the degree of favor shown by Vāsudeva (Vāsudevānukampā tayā śanais tad-anukampā-tāratamyena tirodhatte). Śrī Śrīdhara Svāmīpāda alternately interprets “gradually” (śanaiḥ) to mean “in accord with [the relative depth of one’s] sādhana” (śanair ity anena sādhanānusāreṇeti), and Śrī Cakravartīpāda elaborates on this reading, taking it to mean “in accord with a gradation in the degree of the cessation of one’s anarthas occurring in accord with [the relative depth of one’s] sādhana” (śanair iti sādhanānusāreṇānartha-nivṛtti-tāratamyenety arthaḥ).
