पुन: पुलिनमागत्य कालिन्द्या: कृष्णभावना: ।
समवेता जगु: कृष्णं तदागमनकाङ्क्षिता: ॥
punaḥ pulinam āgatya kalindyāḥ kṛṣṇa-bhāvanāḥ |
samavetā jaguḥ kṛṣṇaṁ tad-āgamana-kāṅkṣitāḥ ||
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 10.30.44)
“After coming back to the shore of the Kālindī, they who were absorbed in thought of Kṛṣṇa [i.e., the gopīs] assembled and sang about Kṛṣṇa, longing for his return.”
Commentary
hanta hanta yatra tad-anveṣaṇārthaṁ yāmas tatas tataḥ sa palāyiṣyate | tasmād vana-paryaṭana-kaṣṭaṁ kim tasyotpādayiṣyāmas tad-icchāṁ vinā sa na labhyo—yam evaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhya iti śrutiṁ pramāṇī-kurvatya iva tad-darśane tat-kāruṇyam eva hetus tat-kāruṇye ca tat-saṅkīrtanam eva hetur iti siddhāntaṁ prakāśayantya iva pūrvaṁ yatra tena saṅgatir āsīt tad eva sthānam ājagmus tam eva jagur ity āha—punar iti |

“[The gopīs thought:] ‘Hanta! Hanta! Wherever we go to search for him, from there he flees. Therefore, why should we create the trouble of moving about the forest for him? [And] Without his wish, he cannot be attained.’ As though proving the Śruti [statement, in Kaṭha Upaniṣad 1.2.23], ‘He is attainable only by one whom he choses,’ and as though demonstrating the conclusion (siddhānta) that his compassion is alone the cause of his darśana, and saṅkīrtana about him is alone the cause of his compassion, they went to the exact place where their meeting with him occurred [earlier] and sang about him. Thus, Śukadeva Gosvāmī speaks this verse (punaḥ …).”
