सम्प्रार्थनात्मिका दैन्यबोधिका लालसामयी ।
इत्यादिर्विविधा धीरैः कृष्णे विज्ञप्तिरीरिता ॥

samprārthanātmikā dainya-bodhikā lālasāmayī |
ity ādir vividhā dhīraiḥ kṛṣṇe vijñaptir īritā ||
(Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu: 1.2.152)

“An address to Kṛṣṇa is said to be of various types by the wise, beginning with [an address] consisting of an entreaty, [an address] expressive of humility, and [an address] made up of longing.”

Commentary

samprārthanā mana āder bhagavan-niṣṭhī-karaṇa-prārthanā-mātram | lālasā svābhīpsita-sevādi-prārthanam |
(Artha-ratnālpa-dīpikā)

“An entreaty is simply a prayer to make the mind and so forth fixed upon Bhagavān. Longing is a prayer for one’s desired service and so forth.”

samprārthanā anutpanna-bhāvasya | lālasā utpanna-bhāvasya iti bhedo jñeyaḥ |
(Bhakti-sāra-pradarśinī-ṭīkā)

“An entreaty is from someone in whom bhāva has not manifest, and longing is from someone in whom bhāva has manifest. This distinction is to be understood [between the two aforementioned categories of address].”
