सन्तु रम्याणि भूरीणि प्रार्थ्यं स्यादिदमेव मे ।
इति यो निर्णयो धीरैरभिमानः स उच्यते ॥

santu ramyāṇi bhūrīṇi prārthyaṁ syād idam eva me |
iti yo nirṇayo dhīrair abhimānaḥ sa ucyate ||
(Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi: 14.19)

“‘Let many pleasing things be [i.e., let me disregard them], and let this alone be desirable to me [i.e., let me desire only this],’—such determination is called abhimāna by the wise.”

Commentary

abhimāno’yaṁ mamatvāspade ko’py ananyatā-mayaḥ saṅkalpa-viśeṣaḥ | sa ca rūpādikam anapekṣyāpi ratim utpādayati |

“This abhimāna is some particular [i.e., an extraordinary] resolve (saṅkalpa), made up of unalloyedness [i.e., of pure fixity], for the object of [one’s] my-ness [i.e., loving attachment]. It produces rati even without consideration of the form and so forth [of the object of one’s my-ness].”
