“The purity of bhaktas is established only by indifference to other happiness and suffering.”
Commentary
Śrī Bhagavān is purity itself. Awareness of him is thus purity of mind, and forgetfulness of him impurity. Any and all forms of happiness and suffering that are unrelated to him and cause forgetfulness of him are causes of impurity in the mind. A bhakta is indifferent to them because a bhakta’s mind is fixed upon Śrī Bhagavān, and while undergoing them, a bhakta does not become elated or dejected.
