अहमुच्चावचैर्द्रव्यै: क्रिययोत्पन्नयानघे ।
नैव तुष्येऽर्चितोऽर्चायां भूतग्रामावमानिन: ॥

aham uccāvacair dravyaiḥ kriyayotpannayānaghe |
naiva tuṣye’rcito’rcāyāṁ bhūta-grāmāvamāninaḥ ||

[Kapiladeva:] “O sinless one, I am certainly not pleased when worshipped in the deity with rites performed with variegated materials by one who disrespects [i.e., engages in defamation of other] living beings.”

Commentary

kiṁ ca, aham iti | avamānino nindā-kartuḥ nindāpi dveṣa-samā, kiṁ vā ‘na tathā tapyate viddhaḥ pumān bāṇais tu marmagaiḥ | yathā tudanti marmasthā hy asatāṁ paruṣeṣavaḥ ||’ ity-ukta-rītyā tato’dhiketi nāyaṁ vyutkrama ity abhipretya na dveṣāt pūrvam asau paṭhitā |

“Furthermore, aham … [i.e., he states SB 3.29.24]. ‘One who disrespects’ (avamāninaḥ) refers to a defamer, and defamation (nindā) is equal to enmity, or, it is greater [i.e., defamation is even worse than enmity] as per the principle stated [by Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa] in [SB 11.23.3], ‘But a person pierced by arrows penetrating his heart is not so pained as one is when the arrows of the harsh speech of the wicked strike and remain fixed in the heart.’ Thus, this [statement] is not a break in the order [i.e., thus the analysis given by Śrī Svāmīpāda that disrespect, neglect, enmity, and defamation are spoken of successively in SB 3.29.21–24 is accurate]. Intending this, that [i.e., defamation] is not mentioned before enmity [by Kapiladeva in this section of Śrīmad Bhāgavatam].”
