जानामि धर्मं न च मे प्रवृत्ति-
र्जानाम्यधर्मं न च मे निवृत्तिः ।
त्वया हृषीकेश हृदि स्थितेन
यथा नियुक्तोऽस्मि तथा करोमि ॥

jānāmi dharmaṁ na ca me pravṛttir
jānāmy adharmaṁ na ca me nivṛttiḥ |
tvayā hṛṣīkeśa hṛdi sthitena 
yathā niyukto’smi tathā karomi ||
(Hari-bhakti-vilāsa: 3.94)

“I understand dharma, but I do not have the propensity [to follow it]. I understand adharma, but I do not have the restraint [to abstain from it]. O Hṛṣīkeśa [i.e., O Master of the senses], as I am engaged by you, who are situated in my heart, so I act.”

Commentary

A similar verse of dissimilar intent:

jānāmi dharmaṁ na ca me pravṛttir
jānāmy adharmaṁ na ca me nivṛttiḥ |
kenāpi devena hṛdi sthitena
yathā niyukto’smi tathā karomi ||
(Pāṇḍava-gītā: 57; Prapanna-gītā)

[Duryodhana:] “I understand dharma, but I do not have the propensity [to follow it]. I understand adharma, but I do not have the restraint [to abstain from it]. As I am engaged by some deva situated in my heart, so I act.”
