caitanyacandra mama hṛt-kumudaṁ vikāśya

caitanyacandra mama hṛt-kumudaṁ vikāśya
hṛdyaṁ vidhehi nija-cintana-bhṛṅga-raṅgaiḥ |
kiṁ cāparādha-timiraṁ niviḍaṁ vidhūya
pādāmṛtaṁ sadaya pāyaya durgataṁ mām ||
(Stavāvalī: Abhīṣṭa-sūcana, 11)

“O Caitanyacandra! Please cause the lily of my heart to bloom and make it adorable with the merriments of the bumblebee of thought of you. Furthermore, O gracious One, please dispel the dense darkness [that has engulfed me as a result] of my aparādhas and make my unfortunate self drink the nectar of your rays [alt., feet].”

saṁsāra-duḥkha-jaladhau patitasya kāma

saṁsāra-duḥkha-jaladhau patitasya kāma-
krodhādi-nakra-makaraiḥ kavalīkṛtasya |
durvāsanā-nigaḍitasya nirāśrayasya
caitanyacandra mama dehi padāvalambam ||

“O Caitanyacandra, please extend the support of your feet to I, shelterless and fettered by harmful vāsanās, who have fallen into the ocean of the suffering of saṁsāra and been seized by the crocodiles and makaras of kāma, anger, and so forth.”

duṣkarma-koṭi-niratasya duranta-ghora-
durvāsanā-nigaḍa-śṛṅkhalitasya gāḍham |
kliśyan mateḥ kumati-koṭi-kadarthitasya
gauraṁ vinādya mama ko bhaviteha bandhuḥ ||
(Caitanya-candrāmṛta: 51)

“Engaged in crores of misdeeds,

Firmly chained by the shackles

Of awful, difficult to subdue, wicked proclivities (durvāsanās),

Of anguishing mind,

And tormented by crores of vile sentiments—

Apart from Gaura,

Who today shall be my friend here [in this world]?”

tasmai jagan-maṅgala-maṅgalāya
caitanyacandrāya namo namas te ||

“Obeisance and obeisance unto him, Caitanyacandra, the auspiciousness of the auspiciousness of the world, he by bhakti to whose lotus feet the supreme goal of human life, namely prema, is surely attainable.”

“Go and study Śrīmad Bhāgavatam from a Vaiṣṇava and take shelter exclusively at the feet of Śrī Caitanya.”

“A person who has faith in Caitanya’s astonishing līlā reaches the side of Caitanya’s feet.”

dekhite nā pāri āmi tāhāra vadana ||
durvāra indriya kare viṣaya-grahaṇa |
dāravī prakṛti hare muner api mana ||
mātrā svasrā duhitrā vā nā viviktāsano bhavet |
balavān indriya-grāmo vidvāṁsam api karṣati ||
kṣudra jīva-saba markaṭa-vairāgya kariyā |
indriya carāñā bule prakṛti sambhāṣiyā ||

[Śrīman Mahāprabhu explains why he refuses to meet with Choṭa Hari Dāsa:] “Prabhu said, ‘A vairāgī [who] converses with prakṛti [i.e., a woman]—I cannot [even] look at his face. The difficult to subdue senses seize their objects, and [even] a wooden figure of prakṛti captivates the mind of even a sage. “One should not have a seat that is unseparated from [even] one’s mother, sister, or daughter [i.e., let alone other women]. The powerful multitude of senses pulls upon even a knowledgable person.” Base living beings engage in monkey vairāgya and go about grazing the senses [i.e., letting their senses roam and partake of the sense objects without restraint] and conversing with prakṛti.‘”

ahaṁ tariṣyāmi duranta-pāraṁ
tamo mukundāṅghri-niṣevayaiva ||

“Taking shelter in fixity in the higher self [alt., Self], as it was practiced by the great souls of the past, I shall cross over the insurmountable darkness [i.e., saṁsāra] by serving the feet of Mukunda.”

kṛpāmṛtenābhiṣiṣeca devas
tatraiva rūpaṁ ca sanātanaṁ ca ||
(Caitanyacandrodaya-nāṭaka: 9.38; cited in Caitanya-caritāmṛta: 2.19.119)

“In the course of time, discussion of the play [i.e., līlā of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa] in Vṛndāvana was lost. Therefore, to distinguish and disseminate this, Deva [i.e., Śrīman Mahāprabhu], specifically in this respect, anointed Rūpa and Sanātana with the nectar of his grace.”
