āsevitaṁ varṣa-pūgān ṣaḍ-vargaṁ viṣayeṣu saḥ |
kṣaṇena mumuce nīḍaṁ jāta-pakṣa iva dvijaḥ ||
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 9.19.24)

“In a moment he abandoned the ṣaḍ-varga [i.e., the six senses] that had been fully engaged in objects of the senses for many years just like a bird with [newly] grown wings [abandons] a nest.”

Commentary

viṣayeṣu śabdādiṣv āsevitaṁ ṣaḍ-vargaṁ ṣaḍ-indriya-sukhaṁ mumuce tatyāja | yad vā, viṣayeṣv āsevitaṁ sevāṁ kāritaṁ ṣaṇṇām indriyāṇāṁ vargaṁ mumuce upaikṣatety arthaḥ |
(Bhāvārtha-dīpikā)

“He abandoned, that is, gave up, the ṣaḍ-varga [i.e., the six senses] that had been fully engaged in objects of the senses, meaning, sounds and so on, that is, [he gave up] the pleasure produced by the six senses. Alternately, the meaning is this: he abandoned, that is, disregarded, the group of six senses that had been fully engaged, that is, made to serve, the objects of the senses.”

varṣa-pūgān api vyāpya viṣayeṣu ā samyak sevitam āsaktir yasya tathābhūtam api ṣaḍ-indriya-vargaṁ kṣaṇenaiva mumuce upaikṣata indriyādhīno na babhūvety arthaḥ | nīḍaṁ mumuce nīḍādhīno yathā na bhavatīty arthaḥ |
(Sārārtha-darśinī-ṭīkā)

“In only a moment he abandoned, that is, disregarded, the group of six senses even though it had been fully engaged, that is, attached, to the objects of the senses continuously even for many years, meaning, he became no longer dependent on the senses. [In what manner did he do this?] Like [a bird with newly grown wings that] abandons the nest, that is, becomes no longer dependent on the nest. This is the meaning.”
