कदाचिद्दर्शनं वा स्याद्वैकुण्ठादिनिवासिनाम् ।
श्रीकृष्णविरहेणार्तानिव पश्यामि तानपि ॥
कदापि तेषु व्रजवासिलोक-
सादृश्यभावानवलोकनान्मे ।
जातानुतापेन भवेत्ततोऽपि
प्रेमप्रकाशात्परमं सुखं तत् ॥

kadācid darśanaṁ vā syād vaikuṇṭhādi-nivāsinām |
śrī-kṛṣṇa-viraheṇārtān iva paśyāmi tān api ||
kadāpi teṣu vraja-vāsi-loka-
sādṛśya-bhāvānavalokanān me |
jātānutāpena bhavet tato’pi
prema-prakāśāt paramaṁ sukhaṁ tat ||

“Sometimes sight of the residents of Vaikuṇṭha and elsewhere [e.g., Ayodhyā] can occur. [When it does,] I see even them to be as though distressed by separation from Śrī Kṛṣṇa. As a result of a manifestation of prema [within me] because of the sorrow produced by sometimes not seeing the bhāva similar to the people residing in Vraja in them [i.e., in the residents of Vaikuṇṭha and elsewhere], I feel that paramount joy [which is experienced in the company of Śrī Kṛṣṇa in Goloka and Bhauma Vraja] to be [present] even there [i.e., in those residents of Vaikuṇṭha and elsewhere].”

Commentary

ye vā kecid anyādṛśā dṛśyeran te’pi śrī-goloka-nivāsa-svabhāvena mayā tatratya-sadṛśā eva dṛśyanta ity āha—kadācid iti | … tān vaikuṇṭhādi-vāsino’pi śrī-kṛṣṇasya tasya viraheṇa ārtān iva paśyāmi ātma-sādṛśyena anyeṣām api sarveṣāṁ bhāva-manana-nyāyāt | … nanu sva-sva-nāthena śrī-bhagavatā saha sadā vilasanānanda-bharavatāṁ teṣāṁ kathaṁ tathā darśanaṁ sarvadā sambhavet? ity āśaṅkyāha—kadāpīti | yadā paramānanda-krīḍā-bhareṇārtān iva na paśyāmi, kintu paramānanda-pūrṇān iti paśyāmi tadety arthaḥ | teṣu vaikuṇṭhādi-vāsiṣu vraja-vāsiṣu vraja-vāsināṁ tad-golokaitan-mathurā-vraje nivasatāṁ lokānāṁ janānāṁ sādṛśyasya teṣāṁ bhāva-sadṛśasya bhāvasya prema-viśeṣasya anavalokanān me mama yo jāto’nutāpaḥ, tena yaḥ premṇaḥ prakāśo’bhivyaktiḥ, tasmād dhetoḥ, tatas tasmin śrī-vaikuṇṭha-lokādāv api, tac chrī-golokaitan mathurā-vrajānubhūtam eva paramaṁ sukhaṁ bhaven mamaiva |

“Should those of other vision [i.e., companions of other forms of Śrī Bhagavān, e.g., Nārāyaṇa, Rāma, or Kṛṣṇa of Dvārakā] be seen, they too are seen by I who have the disposition (svabhāva) of a resident of Śrī Goloka to verily be similar to those situated there [i.e., to the residents of Goloka, meaning, the companions of the Kṛṣṇa of Goloka]. Thus, he says kadācit … [i.e., he speaks BB 2.6.378]. … I see even them, that is, the residents of Vaikuṇṭha and elsewhere, to be as though distressed by separation from him, Śrī Kṛṣṇa [i.e., my Iṣṭa-deva specifically, and not their Iṣṭa-deva], in accord with the custom of considering the mentality even of all others to be similar to one’s own. …

“[A question is raised:] ‘Well, how can such sight of they who are possessed of an abundance of the bliss of constant play with Śrī Bhagavān in his form as their own Lord [i.e., the form of their own Iṣṭa-deva, e.g., Nārāyaṇa or Rāma] always be possible [i.e., how can you always see the companions of forms of Śrī Bhagavān other than your Iṣṭa-deva Śrī Kṛṣṇa of Goloka to be in a state of distressed because of separation specifically from your Iṣṭa-deva Śrī Kṛṣṇa]?’ Expecting this [question], he says kadāpi … [i.e., he speaks BB 2.6.379]. ‘Sometimes’ (kadāpi) means then when I do not see even them to be as though distressed by separation from Śrī Kṛṣṇa and rather see them to be full of paramount bliss. As a result of a manifestation (prakāśa) of prema [within me] because of the sorrow produced within me by not seeing the bhāva, that is, the special form of prema, similar to that of the people residing in Vraja, that is, in Goloka and this Mathurā Vraja [i.e., Bhauma Vraja], in them, that is, in the residents of Vaikuṇṭha and elsewhere, I feel that paramount joy which is experienced in Śrī Goloka and Mathurā Vraja [in the company of Śrī Kṛṣṇa] to be [present] even there (tatas), that is, in the people of Śrī Vaikuṇṭha and so forth [i.e., when I would on occasion observe the absence of the bhāva of the residents of Goloka and Bhauma Vraja in the companions of Nārāyaṇa and other forms of Śrī Bhagavān who dwell in Vaikuṇṭha and elsewhere, then I would feel a special form of sorrow, but that sorrow would give rise to a special manifestation of prema within me that would cause me to nevertheless perceive the paramount joy which is experienced in Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s company in Goloka and Bhauma Vraja to be present even in those residents of Vaikuṇṭha and elsewhere].”
