Rakṣiṣyatīti viśvāsaḥ

kaḥ paṇḍitas tvad aparaṁ śaraṇaṁ samīyād

kaḥ paṇḍitas tvad aparaṁ śaraṇaṁ samīyād
bhakta-priyād ṛta-giraḥ suhṛdaḥ kṛtajñāt |
sarvān dadāti suhṛdo bhajato’bhi kāmān
ātmanam apy upacayāpacayau na yasya ||

“What paṇḍita would take full shelter in anyone other than you, to whom bhaktas are dear, whose words are truthful, who are well-wishing, who are grateful, and who bestow all thoroughly desired objects upon a well-wishing worshiper [of yourself] and even your own self [upon them] without any accumulation for, or diminution of, yourself [thereby]?”

nṛṣu tava māyayā bhramam amīṣv avagatya bhṛśaṁ

nṛṣu tava māyayā bhramam amīṣv avagatya bhṛśaṁ
tvayi sudhiyo’bhave dadhati bhāvam anuprabhavam |
katham anuvartatāṁ bhava-bhayaṁ tava yad bhrū-kuṭiḥ
sṛjati muhus trinemir abhavac-charaṇeṣu bhayam ||
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 10.87.32)

[Translated according to Śrī Śrīdhara Svāmīpāda’s commentary:] “Understanding the ignorance as a consequence of your māyā among these human beings wherefrom repeated birth ensues, the wise foster bhāva [i.e., render service] profusely for you, Non-existence [i.e., you who are the cause of liberation from material existence]. How could your followers have any distress on account of [material] existence, since the furrowing of your brows—time (trinemi)—creates distress perpetually for those who are not in your shelter?”

bhūmau skhalita-pādānāṁ bhūmir evāvalambanam |
tvayi jātāparādhānāṁ tvam eva śaraṇaṁ prabho ||

“The ground is the only support for those whose feet have tripped on the ground. [Similarly,] You are the only shelter for those who have committed offense to you, O Master!”

raṇorvaritam ity abhūt tava yathārtham evoditam |

tathāpi na murāntaka vyabhicariṣṇur uktis tava ||

“[Kuntī Devī to Śrī Kṛṣṇa:] Your statement, ‘O Pṛthā! I will offer your five sons returned [unscathed and exalted] from the battle directly [to you],’ has certainly come true. The sun may become cooling, and the friend of the lily [i.e., the moon] heating. Still, O Destroyer of Mura! Your word shall not prove false.”

viśvasya yaḥ sthiti-layodbhava-hetur ādyo
yogeśvarair api duratyaya-yogamāyaḥ |
kṣemaṁ vidhāsyati sa no bhagavāṁs tryadhīśas
tatrāsmadīya-vimṛśena kiyān ihārthaḥ ||

“[Brahmā concludes his address to the other devatās who are frighted because of the coming births of Hiraṇyakṣa and Hiraṇyakaśipu:] Bhagavān, he who is the cause of the perpetuation, dissolution, and generation of the universe, the master of the three [guṇas, alt., worlds], and the Original Being whose yogamāyā [i.e., divine power] is insurmountable even by masters of yoga, will bring about our well-being. How much use is there in our now deliberating over this? [i.e., there is really nothing to be gained from deliberating over or worrying about how we will fare even in the face of this eminent danger, since Bhagavān will surely do whatever is best for us in a way that may be even better than we presently have the ability to understand].”

aghahara tava vīrya-proṣitāśeṣa-cintāḥ

aghahara tava vīrya-proṣitāśeṣa-cintāḥ
parihṛta-gṛha-vāstu-dvāra-bandhānubaddhāḥ |
nija-nijam iha rātrau prāṅganaṁ śobhayantaḥ
sukham avicalad-aṅgāḥ śerate paśya gopāḥ ||
(Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu: 2.4.174)

“O Aghahara, look at the gopas, who have cast away all worries by virtue of your vigor, given up the obligation of locking the doors of their households, finely decorated their own courtyards, and comfortably, with unmoving bodies, gone to sleep at night here [in Vraja].”

māṅgalyaṁ jagatām eva viśvāsāspadatā matā ||
yathā—
anyāyyaṁ na harāv iti vyapagata-dvārārgalā dānavā
rakṣī kṛṣṇa iti pramattam abhitaḥ krīḍāsu raktāḥ surāḥ |
sākṣī vetti sa bhaktim ity avanata-vrātāś ca cintojjhitāḥ
ke viśvambhara na tvad-aṅghri-yugale viśrambhitāṁ bhejire ||
(Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu: 2.1.259–260)

“[Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s quality of] Being the object of the entire world’s faith is considered [his quality of] auspiciousness (māṅgalya), [which is illustrated] as follows: ‘Because “There is no injustice in Hari,” the Dānavas [i.e., asuras] leave theirs doors unbolted, because “Kṛṣṇa is our protector,” the suras [i.e., devas] are carelessly absorbed in play all around, and because “He, the witnesser, knows our bhakti,” the humble [lit., “those who are bent down,” i.e., bhaktas] are worry-free. O Maintainer of the world! Who has not fostered confidence in your feet?”

divi vā bhuvi vā mamāstu vāso
narake vā narakāntaka prakāmam |
avadhīrita-śāradāravindau
caraṇau te maraṇe’pi cintayāmi ||

“O Destroyer of Naraka! Let my residence be in the sky [i.e., Svarga], or on earth, or in Naraka, as so willed. Even at death, I shall think of your feet, by which [even] autumnal lotuses are surpassed.”

aihikāmuṣmikī-cintā na ca kāryā kadācana

aihikāmuṣmikī-cintā na ca kāryā kadācana |
aihikaṁ tu sadā bhāvyaṁ pūrvācarita-karmaṇām ||
āmuṣmikaṁ tathā kṛṣṇaḥ svayam eva kariṣyati |
ato hi tat-kṛte tyājyaḥ prayatnaḥ sarvathā naraiḥ ||
(Sanat-kumāra-saṁhitā: 113–114)

“One should never worry about the here and now or the hereafter [i.e., about one’s future in this world or the next]. The here and now should always be considered the result of previously performed karma, and Kṛṣṇa himself will arrange the hereafter. Therefore, endeavor to do that [i.e., to effect a desirable afterlife] is to be given up completely by human beings [and instead one should endeavor only to serve and satisfy Kṛṣṇa].”
