Aṣṭa-kāliya-līlā

prabhātam āyātam aśeṣa-ghoṣa-

prabhātam āyātam aśeṣa-ghoṣa-
tṛṣārta-netra-bhramarāravinda |
gariṣṭha-bhūyiṣṭha-viśiṣṭa-niṣṭhaṁ
goṣṭhaṁ pratiṣṭhasva daviṣṭam iṣṭam ||
(Govinda-līlāmṛta: 1.29)

“Daybreak has arrived,
O Lotus of the bees
Of the entire village’s thirst-stricken eyes!
[Therefore, without delay]
Depart for your distant, dear village
Where the chief among your numerous elders are present
[Since otherwise you will undergo shame before them].”

jaya jaya gokula-maṅgala-kanda
vraja-yuvatī-tati-bhṛṅgy-aravinda |
pratipada-vardhita-nandānanda
śrī-govindācyuta nata-śanda ||

“Glory to you! Glory to you!
O Root of Gokula’s good fortune!
[Alt., O Cloud which showers good fortune like rain upon Gokula!]
O Lotus for the bumblebees of Vraja’s young women!
O you by whom Nanda’s bliss is increased at every moment!
O Śrī Govinda! O Acyuta!
O Giver of happiness to the bowed!”

taruṇī-nicaye sahajākaruṇaḥ |
nibhṛtaṁ nilayaṁ vraja-nātha tatas
tvarito’ṭa kalinda-sutā-taṭataḥ ||

“The dawn,
By nature merciless to young women,
Has swiftly arrived at the Eastern Mountain.
Therefore, O Lord of Vraja!
Quickly and stealthily go
From the bank of the Yamunā [back] to your home.”

gokula-bandho jaya rasa-sindho
jāgṛhi talpaṁ tyaja śaśi-kalpam |
prīty-anukūlāṁ śrita-bhuja-mūlāṁ

“O Friend of Gokula!
Glory to you!
O Ocean of rasa!
Wake up!
Give up this bed akin to the moon!
And awaken your lover,
Favorable out of love (prīti),
And resting on your shoulder,
Exhausted from the load of lovemaking.”

goṣṭhaṁ yāti pradoṣe ramayati suhṛdo yaḥ sa kṛṣṇo’vatān naḥ ||

“At the end of night, from the kuñja he enters his homestead. In the early morning and evening, he performs līlās of milking [cows], eating food, and so forth. In the forenoon, he sports with friends while herding the cows. At midday and [mid-] night, he plays in full directly with Rādhā in the forest. In the afternoon, he returns to his homestead. In the evening, he delights his well-wishers. May he, Kṛṣṇa, protect us.”

“Wearing a peacock-feather chaplet, a [blue] karṇikāra flower on his ears, golden-yellow garments, and a victory garland, the best of actors [i.e., Śrī Kṛṣṇa] filled the holes of his flute with the nectar of his lips and entered the forest of Vraja, whose delight is his feet, as the gopas sang his glories.”

“Thereafter, they [i.e., Tulasī and Rūpa Mañjarī] fed their contemporaries and servants and then with their companions delightedly ate their Īśā’s [i.e., Rādhā’s] remnants.”

“Rādhikā and her companions felt abundant delight eating the remnants of Kṛṣṇa’s food just as female swans do by eating morsels of the remnants of fine lotus stems left by their husbands, deer do by eating young shoots, bees do by eating bright flower nectar, and cakorīs do by drinking the moon’s nectar.”
