नियमात्फलमाप्नोति न श्रेयो नियमं विना ॥

niyamāt phalam āpnoti na śreyo niyamaṁ vinā ||
(Bhaviṣya Purāṇa; cited in Hari-bhakti-vilāsa: 15.464, Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā on Hari-bhakti-vilāsa: 13.510, 15.630)

“One attains the goal on account of a fixed rule. There is no auspiciousness without a fixed rule.”

Commentary

Śrī Sanātana Gosvāmīpāda explains in his Dig-darśinī-ṭīkā that a “fixed rule” (niyamam) refer to a resolve (saṅkalpam), meaning, one only attains success in one’s sādhana principally by virtue of having made a firm resolve to attain the goal of one’s sādhana over and above all else.
