दुराराध्यं समाराध्य विष्णुं सर्वेश्वरेश्वरम् ।
यो वृणीते मनोग्राह्यमसत्त्वात् कुमनीष्यसौ ॥

durārdhyaṁ samārādhya viṣṇuṁ sarveśvareśvaram |
yo vṛṇīte mano-grāhyam asattvāt kumanīṣy asau ||
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 10.48.11)

“One who, after fully worshiping Viṣṇu, the difficult to worship Īśvara of all īśvaras, requests that which is acceptable to the mind [i.e., pleasures of the senses] is of low intelligence because of pettiness.”

Commentary

prasaṅgāt preyasī-bhāvena bhajato janān śikṣayati—durārādhyam iti | manogrāhyaṁ svendriya-sukhaṁ tena kṛṣṇendriya-sukha eva sarvathā dṛṣṭayā yady ānuṣaṅgikaṁ tv indriya-sukhaṁ syāt tadā na doṣaḥ | bhakti-mātraikakāmitve’pi saṁsāra-dhvaṁsavad iti jñeyam |
(Sārārtha-darśinī-ṭīkā)

“Contextually, she [i.e., Kubjā] instructs persons worshiping [Bhagavān] with the bhāva of a lover (preyasī): durārādhyam … [i.e., she speaks this verse]. ‘Acceptable to the mind’ (manogrāhyaṁ) means pleasing to one’s senses. Thus, if pleasing of [one’s own senses] should occur only secondarily as a result of consideration in all respects only of pleasing Kṛṣṇa’s senses, then that is not a fault, like the dissolution of saṁsāra [is not a fault] even when one is a desirer solely of bhakti alone. This is to be understood.”
