Sūkti Sudhākara

yeṣāṁ na kāraṇaṁ vedā

yeṣāṁ na kāraṇaṁ vedā na viprā na janārdanaḥ |
tantrāṇi dharma-śāstrāṇi teṣāṁ vākyaṁ vivarjayet ||
(Viṣṇu Rahasya; Kūrma Purāṇa; cited in Hari-bhakti-vilāsa: 12.417)

“Reject the statements of the tantras and dharma-śāstra which do not have the authority of the Vedas, brāhmaṇas, and Janārdana.”

itihāsa-purāṇa-jñāḥ

itihāsa-purāṇa-jñāḥ smṛti-siddhānta-vedinaḥ |
vāsudeva-priyā ye ca tad-uktaṁ vaidikaṁ bhavet ||

“The directive of one who is learned in the Itihāsas and Purāṇas, knowledgable in the siddhānta of the Smṛti, and dear to Vāsudeva shall be Vedic.”

saṁspṛṣṭvā vaiṣṇavān viprān viṣṇu-śāstra-viśāradān |
cīrṇa-vratān sadācārāṁs tad-uktaṁ yatnataś caret ||
(Kūrma Purāṇa; cited in Hari-bhakti-vilāsa: 12.415)

“After inquiring from Vaiṣṇava brāhmaṇas who are well-verses in Viṣṇu-śāstra, who have performed vratas [themselves], and who are of proper conduct (sadācāra), carefully follow their statements.”

arcayanti sadā viṣṇuṁ mano-vāk-kāya-karmabhiḥ |
teṣāṁ hi vacanaṁ kāryaṁ te hi viṣṇu-samā matāḥ ||

“The directives of those who constantly worship Viṣṇu with their minds, words, bodies, and actions should be followed, since they are indeed considered equal to Viṣṇu.”

prārthaye tava pādābje dāsyam evābhikāmaye ||

“I do not pray for dharma, kāma, artha, or mokṣa, O Varadeśvara [i.e., O Lord, granter of boons]. I desire only servitude to your lotus feet.”

yo rādhā-bhāva-saṁlubdhaḥ svaṁ bhāvaṁ nitarāṁ jahau ||

“I offer obeisance unto him, Kṛṣṇa Caitanya, who is golden although he is Kṛṣṇa [alt., blackish] himself, and, being intensely desirous of Rādhā’s bhāva, has completely given up his own bhāva.”

sarveṣām amataṁ yat syāt

sarveṣām amataṁ yat syāt sa bhramaḥ paricīyate |
bahūnām amataṁ yat tat keṣāñcin matam iṣyate ||
(Vṛtti on Hari-nāmāmṛta-vyākaraṇa: 75)

“That which is unacceptable to everyone is called a bhrama (“mistake”). That which is unacceptable to many is considered the view of some.”

śṛṇuṣvāvahito rājann api guhyaṁ vadāmi te |
brūyuḥ snigdhasya śiṣyasya guravo guhyam apy uta ||
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 10.13.3)

[Śukadeva Gosvāmī to Parīkṣit Mahārāja:] “O King, listen attentively. Although it [i.e., the answer to your question] is a secret, I will tell you [this], for gurus may indeed speak even secrets before a devout disciple.”

“May your intention be united, your hearts united, and your minds united, so that you have excellent companionship.”
