rāgeṇaivārpitātmāno loka-yugmānapekṣiṇā |
dharmeṇāsvīkṛtā yās tu parakīyā bhavanti tāḥ ||
(Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi: 3.17)
“Those [beloveds of Śrī Kṛṣṇa] who have offered themselves [to Kṛṣṇa] purely out of rāga [i.e., intense desire], are indifferent to the two worlds [i.e., their standing in this world and the next], and have not been accepted [by him] by means of dharma [but rather on account of his rāga for them] are [called] parakīyā.”
naikātmatāṁ me spṛhayanti kecin
mat-pāda-sevābhiratā mad-īhāḥ |
ye’nyonyato bhāgavatāḥ prasajya
sabhājayante mama pauruṣāṇi ||

“Some bhāgavatas, who are deeply engaged in service to my feet, whose actions are for me, and who devoutly honor my feats, do not covet oneness with me.”
devācāryaṁ yaṁ viduḥ sat-kavitve
pārāśaryaṁ tattva-vāde mahāntaḥ |
śṛṅgārārtha-vyañjane vyāsa-sūnuṁ
sa śrī-rūpaḥ pātu no bhṛtya-vargān ||

“Whom the mahāntas know
As the divine ācārya in fine poetry (kavitva),
As the son of Parāśara [i.e., Vyāsadeva] in discussion of tattva,
And as the son of Vyāsa [i.e., Śukadeva] in manifesting the meaning of śṛṅgāra [i.e., madhura-rasa]—
May he, Śrī Rūpa,
Protect us,
His servants.”
sanātanaṁ rūpam ihopadarśayann
ānanda-sindhuṁ paritaḥ pravardhayan |
antas-tamaḥ-stoma-haraḥ sa rājatāṁ
caitanya-rūpo vidhur adbhutodayaḥ ||

“The Dispeller of the mass of inner darkness,
The Moon of astonishing arising,
He of conscious (caitanya) form [i.e., Svayaṁ Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa],
Shines,
Manifesting an eternal (sanātanaṁ) form (rūpaṁ) here [i.e., in this world during his avatāra],
And causing an ocean of bliss to swell in all directions.”
jñāna-pūrvā bhavel lipsā lipsā-pūrvābhisandhitā |
abhisandhi-pūrvakaṁ karma karma-mūlaṁ tataḥ phalam ||

“Desire [for an object] shall be preceded by knowledge [of the object], aim [for an object] preceded by desire [for it], and action [to attain it] preceded by the aim [for it]. Then the result, the basis of which is the action, occurs.”

“I offer obeisance unto the two lords
Mādhava and Umādhava [i.e., Śiva, the husband of Umā],
Who are bestowers of all attainments (siddhis),
The hearts of one another,
And fond of bowing to one another.”
anyo’nya-bhakti-dānārtham anyo’nyopāsanā-karau |
vande hariharau devāv anyo’nya-prema-tatparau ||

“I offer obeisance to the devas Hari and Hara,
Who are immersed in prema for one another
And performers of upāsanā of one another
For the sake of imparting [to others] bhakti to one another.”
mudā gopendrasyātmaja-bhuja-pariṣvaṅga-nidhaye
sphurad-gopī-vṛndair yam iha bhagavantaṁ praṇayibhiḥ |
bhajadbhis tair bhaktyā svam abhilaṣitaṁ prāptam acirād
yamī-tīre gopīśvaram anudinaṁ taṁ kila bhaje ||

“On the bank of Yama’s Twin,
Assuredly I daily worship him,
Gopīśvara,
The lord who
For the sake of [attaining] a jewel—
The embrace of the arms
Of the Son of the gopa’s king—
Was joyfully worshiped
With bhakti here [i.e., in Vṛndāvana]
By those shining gopīs full of love,
Who quickly attained their desired object.”
śrīmad gopīśvaraṁ vande śaṅkaraṁ karuṇāmayam |
sarva-kleśa-haraṁ devaṁ vṛndāraṇya-rati-pradam ||

“I offer obeisance to Śrīmad Gopīśvara,
Śaṅkara,
Full of compassion,
A remover of all affliction,
Refulgent,
A bestower of the rati of Vṛndāvana.”
