aho bakī yaṁ stana-kāla-kūṭaṁ

aho bakī yaṁ stana-kāla-kūṭaṁ
jighāṁsayāpāyayad apy asādhvī |
lebhe gatiṁ dhātry-ucitāṁ tato’nyaṁ
kaṁ vā dayāluṁ śaraṇaṁ vrajema ||

“Aho! In what compassionate person could we possibly take shelter other than he whom Bakī [i.e., Pūtanā] fed lethal poison on her breast with the intent to kill [him] and [yet still], although she was wicked, attained a position appropriate for a nurse?”

kṛṣṇa-kṛpā vine nahe duḥkhera mocana |
thākila vā vidyā kula koṭi koṭi dhana ||
(Caitanya-bhāgavata: 1.7.138)

“Without Kṛṣṇa’s grace, deliverance from suffering does not occur, even if one has learning, nobility, or crores and crores of wealth.”

anuṣṭhānaṁ hy upadeśāpekṣaṁ, prema tu tat-prasādāpekṣam iti |
(Tattva Sandarbha: 46)

“Practice [i.e., sādhana-bhakti] is dependent on instruction, but prema [i.e., prema-bhakti] is dependent on his [i.e., Bhagavān’s] grace.”

anukampā ca pūrṇe’pi svasmin nija-sevādy-abhilāṣaṁ sampādya sevakādiṣu sevādi-saubhāgya-sampādikā bhagavataś cittārdratāmayī tad-upakārecchā |

“Anukampā (compassion) is Bhagavān’s desire, constituted of meltedness of the heart, to favor his servants and so forth by producing desire [within their hearts] for their own service to him and then manifesting the fortune of that service and so forth even though he is complete [i.e., independent and self-satisfied].”

nirupadhi-karuṇena śrī-śacī-nandanena
tvayi kapaṭi-śaṭho’pi tvat-priyeṇārpito’smi |
iti khalu mama yogyāyogyatāṁ tām agṛhṇan
nija-nikaṭa-nivāsaṁ dehi govardhana tvam ||
(Govardhana-vāsa-prārthanā-daśakam: 10)

“Although I am crooked and deceitful, I have been given to you by your dear one, the unconditionally compassionate Son of Śrī Śacī. So, may you please do not judge my fitness and unfitness, and give me a dwelling near you, O Govardhana!”

preme matta nityānanda kṛpā-avatāra |
uttama, adhama, kichu nā kare vicāra ||
ye āge paḍaye, tāre karaye nistāra |
(Caitanya-caritāmṛta: 1.5.207–8)

“Maddened with prema, Nityānanda is the avatāra of grace. He does not discriminate at all between the high and the low. He delivers whoever falls before him.”

naṣṭo mohaḥ smṛtir labdhā tvat-prasādān mayācyuta |
sthito’smi gata-sandehaḥ kariṣye vacanaṁ tava ||
(Bhagavad-gītā: 18.73)

“[Arjuna to Kṛṣṇa:] O Acyuta, by your grace, my misunderstanding is dispelled, and remembrance has been attained by me. I am steady, free from doubt. I shall follow your instruction.”

itthaṁ guror labdha-mantro guru-bhakti-parāyaṇaḥ |
sevamāno guruṁ nityaṁ tat-kṛpāṁ bhāvayet sudhīḥ ||
satāṁ dharmāṁs tataḥ śikṣet prapannānāṁ viśeṣataḥ |
sveṣṭa-deva-dhiyā nityaṁ vaiṣṇavān paritoṣayet ||
(Sanat-kumāra-saṁhitā: 110–111)

“A wise person who has thus received a mantra from a guru, is engaged in bhakti to the guru, and is regularly serving the guru should meditate on his grace. He should learn the dharmas of the sādhus, in particular, those of the surrendered, and with awareness of his own Iṣṭa-deva [i.e., with awareness of the presence of, and with the intent to please, his Iṣṭa-devata], he should always satisfy the Vaiṣṇavas.”

sthira hañā ghare yāha, nā hao vātula |
krame krame pāya loka bhava-sindhu-kūla ||
markaṭa-vairāgya nā kara loka dekhāiyā |
yathā-yogya viṣaya bhuñja anāsakta haiyā ||
antara-niṣṭhā kara, bāhye loka-vyavahāra |
acirāte kṛṣṇa tomāya karibe uddhāra ||
vṛndāvana dekhi yabe āsi nīlācale |
tabe tumi āmā-pāśa āsiha kona-chale ||
se-kāle se chala kṛṣṇa sphurābe tomāre |
kṛṣṇa-kṛpā yāre, tāre ke rākhite pāre ? ||
(Caitanya-caritāmṛta: 2.16.238–242)

“Be steady and go home. Do not be crazy. Gradually a person reaches the shore of the ocean of material existence. Do not engage in monkey renunciation and make a show to the public. [Rather,] Make use of material things as appropriate, remaining detached. Internally be fixed but externally observe social conduct. Soon Kṛṣṇa will deliver you. When I return to Nīlācala after visiting Vṛndāvana, then on some pretext come to my side. Kṛṣṇa will reveal this pretext to you at that time. Who can detain one who has received Kṛṣṇa’s grace?”
