Bilvamaṅgala Ṭhākura

bhaktis tvayi sthiratarā bhagavan yadi syād

bhaktis tvayi sthiratarā bhagavan yadi syād
daivena naḥ phalati divya-kiśora-mūrtiḥ |
muktiḥ svayaṁ mukulitāñjaliḥ sevate’smān
dharmārtha-kāma-gatayaḥ samaya-pratīkṣāḥ ||
(Kṛṣṇa-karṇāmṛta: 107)

“O Bhagavān, if our bhakti to you would become more steadfast, [then] your divine adolescent figure will manifest [before us], mukti herself will serve us with joined palms, and the attainments of dharma, artha, and kāma will await their chance [to serve].”

“Not knowing the pain of being burnt, a moth enters the flame of a lamp. A fish too eats a piece of meat not knowing it is a covered hook. Although we [however] know objects of enjoyment here [i.e., in saṁsāra] are embedded in a net of afflictions, we do not give them up. Ahaha! How impenetrable is the power of delusion!”

cintāmaṇiś caraṇa-bhūṣaṇam aṅganānāṁ
śṛṅgāra-puṣpa-taravas taravaḥ surāṇām |
vṛndāvane vraja-dhanaṁ nanu kāma-dhenu-
vṛndāni ceti sukha-sindhur aho vibhūtiḥ ||

“‘Nanu! In Vṛndāvana, the ladies’ foot-ornaments are thought-jewels, the decorative flowering trees are desire-trees [lit., trees of the suras], and the communal wealth is herds of desire-cows. Aho! The opulence [here] is thus an ocean of joy!”

“O Flute Player, you know that your youth astonishes the three worlds, and both you and I know of my restlessness [because of it]. So, what can I do to behold with my eyes your attractive, rarely seen lotus face?”

“We, who were worshipped by the followers of the path of non-dualism (advaita) and consecrated on the throne of the bliss of the self, have been converted into a servant deceitfully and forcibly by some paramour of cowherd men’s wives.”

“There may be many all-auspicious avatāras of he of lotus-navel [i.e. Bhagavān], but who other than Kṛṣṇa is the bestower of prema upon even creepers?”

“Sweet, swee Is this Lord’s figure.
