বন্ধুসঙ্গে যদি তব রঙ্গ পরিহাস
থাকে অভিলাষ—থাকে অভিলাষ ।
তবে মোর কথা রাখ যেয়ো নাক যেয়ো নাক
মথুরায় কেশীতীর্থ-ঘাটের সকাশ ॥১॥
bandhu-saṅge yadi tava raṅga parihāsa
thāke abhilāṣa—thāke abhilāṣa |
tabe mora kathā rākha yeyo nāka yeyo nāka
mathurāya keśī-tīrtha-ghāṭera sakāśa ||1||
If you have any desire—if you have any desire—to laugh and enjoy in the company of friends [alt., relatives], then remember my words: do not go, do not go, near the ghāṭa at Keśī Tīrtha in Mathurā!
গোবিন্দ-বিগ্রহ ধরি’ তথায় আছ্হেন হরি
নয়নে বঙ্কিম-দৃষ্টি মুখে মন্দ-হাস ।
কিবা ত্রি-ভঙ্গিম ঠাম বর্ণ সমুজ্জ্বল শ্যাম
নব-কিশলয় শোভা শ্রী-অঙ্গে প্রকাশ ॥২॥
govinda-vigraha dhari’ tathāya āchhena hari
nayane baṅkima-dṛṣṭi mukhe manda-hāsa |
kibā tri-bhaṅgima ṭhāma varṇa samujjvala śyāma
nava-kiśalaya śobhā śrī-aṅge prakāśa ||2||
Bearing the figure of Govinda, Hari is present there with a side-long glance in his eyes and a mild smile on his face. What a threefold posture! His complexion is a radiant deep blue, and the beauty of his divine limbs resembles tender new leaves.
অধরে বংশীটি তার অনিষ্টের মূলাধার
শিখি-ছূডাকেও ভাই করো না বিশ্বাস ।
সে মূর্তি নয়নে হেরে কেহ নাহি ঘরে ফিরে
সংসারী গৃহীর যে গো হয় সর্ব-নাশ ॥৩॥
adhare vaṁśīṭi tāra aniṣṭera mūlādhāra
śikhi-chūḍākeo bhāi karo nā viśvāsa |
se mūrti nayane here keha nāhi ghare phire
saṁsārī gṛhīra ye go haya sarva-nāśa ||3||
The flute at his lips is the cause of disaster! O brother! No one can believe his peacock feather crest, and after seeing his figure with one’s own eyes, no one returns home! A saṁsārī householder who does so meets with utter ruin!
তাই মোর মনে বড ত্রাস ।
ঘটিবে বিপদ ভারি যেয়ো নাকো হে সংসারী
মথুরায় কেশী-তীর্থ-ঘাটের সকাশ ॥৪॥
tāi mora mane baḍa trāsa |
ghaṭibe vipada bhāri yeyo nāko he saṁsārī
mathurāya keśī-tīrtha-ghāṭera sakāśa ||4||
Thus there is great fright in my mind that grave danger will befall you! So do not go, O saṁsārī, near the ghāṭa at Keśī Tīrtha in Mathurā!
Commentary: This song is based on the following verse of Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī in Śrī Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu (1.2.239):
smerāṁ bhaṅgī-traya-paricitāṁ sāci-vistīrṇa-dṛṣṭiṁ
vaṁśī-nyastādhara-kiśalayām ujjvalāṁ candrakeṇa |
govindākhyāṁ hari-tanum itaḥ keśī-tīrthopakaṇṭhe
mā prekṣiṣṭhās tava yadi sakhe bandhu-saṅge’sti raṅgaḥ ||
“O friend! If you enjoy in the company of kinsmen, then from here do not look towards the figure of Hari known as Govinda near Keśi Tīrtha smiling with the vaṁśī fixed on the sprouts of lips as he casts sidelong glances in a threefold posture and shines with the eye of a peacock feather [decorating his diadem].”
