अपूर्वः कोऽपि कोपाग्निः सज्जनस्य खलस्य च ।
एकस्य शाम्यति स्नेहाद्वर्धनेऽन्यस्य वारितः ॥
apūrvaḥ ko’pi kopāgniḥ sajjanasya khalasya ca |
ekasya śāmyati snehād vardhane’nyasya vāritaḥ ||

“The fires of anger in the virtuous and the wicked are extraordinary: one is extinguished with oil [alt., affection], and the other increases with water [alt., restraint].”
