अभिमानं सुरापानं गौरवं रौरवं समम् ।
प्रतिष्ठा शूकरीविष्ठा त्रयं त्यक्त्वा हरिं भजेत् ॥
abhimānaṁ surāpānaṁ gauravaṁ rauravaṁ samam |
pratiṣṭhā śūkarī-viṣṭhā trayaṁ tyaktvā hariṁ bhajet ||
(Viṣṇu-sūkti: 99)
“Pride is like drinking liquor. Reverence [i.e., being revered] is like Raurava [loosely, hell]. Pratiṣṭhā is like pig-stool. Avoid these three and worship Hari.”
Alternate version

pratiṣṭhā śūkarī-viṣṭhā trayaṁ tyaktvā sukhī bhavet ||
“Pride is like drinking liquor. Reverence [i.e., being revered] is like fearsome Raurava [loosely, hell]. Pratiṣṭhā is like pig-stool. Avoid these three and be happy.”
