परिपाकेण दैन्यस्य प्रेमाजस्रं वितन्यते ।
परस्परं तयोरित्थं कार्यकारणतेक्ष्यते ॥

paripākeṇa dainyasya premājasraṁ vitanyate |
parasparaṁ tayor itthaṁ kārya-kāraṇatekṣyate ||
(Bṛhad Bhāgavatāmṛta: 2.5.225)

“With the full maturation of humility, prema manifests in a special manner continuously. In this way, their being the cause and effect of one another is seen.”

Commentary

nanv evaṁ prema-niṣṭhāyāḥ phalaṁ dainyam iti paryavasyati tac cāyuktam sarvatra premṇa eva phalatvena pratipādanāt | satyaṁ, tat tu premṇo nātīva bhinnaṁ kintu āntara-lakṣaṇa-rūpa-mukhyataram aṅgam evety āha—parīti |

“[An objection is raised:] ‘Well, in this way [i.e., according to the statement in the last verse] humility is a result of fixity in prema, but concluding that [i.e., making such a conclusion, however] is improper because prema itself being the [ultimate] attainment is stated everywhere.’ True, that [i.e., humility], however, is not greatly distinct from prema, and rather is very primary aspect [of it] in the form of an internal characteristic [thereof]. Thus, Śrī Nārada says parīpākena … [i.e., he speaks this verse].”
