śrī-caitanya-mukhodgīrṇā hare-kṛṣṇeti varṇakāḥ |
majjayanto jagat premṇi vijayantāṁ tad-āhvayāḥ || 
(Laghu Bhāgavatāmṛta: 1.4)

“May these names made of the syllables Ha-re Kṛṣ-ṇa pronounced by Śrī Caitanya’s mouth inundate the world with prema and triumph completely!”

prabhu kahe—kahilāṅ ei mahāmantra |
ihā japa’ giyā sabe kariyā nirbandha ||
ihā haite sarva-siddhi ha-ibe sabāra |
sarva-kṣaṇa bala’ ithe vidhi nāhi āra ||

“‘Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare, Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare’—the Master [viz., Caitanya Mahāprabhu] said, ‘I have told you all this supreme (mahā) mantra. All of you go and perform japa of this, fostering absorption [alt., maintaining a quota]. By this, all attainments (siddhis) will be had by all of you. Chant at every moment. There is no other rule in this regard.’”

madhu-klībañ ca mādhvīke kṛta-karma-śubhāśubhe

madhu-klībañ ca mādhvīke kṛta-karma-śubhāśubhe |
bhaktānāṁ karmaṇāñ caiva sūdanaṁ madhusūdanam ||
pariṇāmāśubhaṁ karma bhrāntānāṁ madhuraṁ madhu |
karoti sūdanaṁ yo hi sa eva madhusūdanaḥ ||
(Brahma-vaivarta Purāṇa; cited in Śabda-kalpa-druma)

“In the name Madhusūdana, madhu in neuter gender refers to honey-wine and to auspicious and inauspicious karma that has been performed, and the sūdana [i.e., destruction] is of [these] karmas of bhaktas. He who performs the destruction (sūdana) of madhu, that is, the [sometimes initially] ‘sweet’ results of the inauspicious karma of the ignorant is [called] Madhusūdana.”

rañjakatvaṁ hi mādhuryaṁ cetaso druti-kāraṇam

rañjakatvaṁ hi mādhuryaṁ cetaso druti-kāraṇam |
sambhoge vipralambhe ca tad evātiśayocitam ||
(Alaṅkāra-kaustubha: 6.16)

“Mādhurya means delightfulness which is a cause [alt., means] of melting of the heart. It is most suitable in union, separation, and elsewhere [i.e., in instances of lamentation (karuṇa) and so forth].”

prapannāyām agre mihira-duhitus tīrtha-padavīṁ
kuraṅgī-netrāyāṁ madhu-ripur apāṅgaṁ vikirati ||

(Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu: 2.1.257)

“That wherein desirability of movement and so forth shall occur is [called] mādhurya, as in [the following illustration]: ‘While sitting on the splendid bank of the Daughter of Sun [i.e., the Yamunā] and making a long-delayed garland that hangs to the breast with golden-hued kadambas, Murāri cast a side-long glance before she of doe-eyes [i.e., Śrī Rādhā] arriving on the path to the ghat.’”

tāt-kālikopapannaṁ ca bhaikṣyaṁ pañca-vidhaṁ smṛtam ||

“Mādhukara alms are known to be of five types: [1] indeterminate, [2] previously arranged, [3] unsolicited, [4] coincidental, and [5] offered.”
