अशनं मे वसनं मे जाया मे बन्धुवर्गो मे ।
इति मे मे कुर्वाणं हन्ति कालवृको पुरुषाजम् ॥
aśanaṁ me vasanaṁ me jāyā me bandhu-vargo me |
iti me me kurvāṇaṁ hanti kāla-vṛko puruṣājam ||
(Mahāsubhāṣita-saṅgraha)
“‘My food, my cloth, my wife, my relations’—saying, ‘my,’ ‘my’ [continuously], this goat of a man is devoured by the wolf of time.”
Commentary
The word ‘me,’ meaning, ‘my’ is employed simultaneously in both in its conventional sense and as an onomatopoeia for the baying of a goat.
