यः शब्देन प्रत्याय्यते स च [अर्थः] ।

yaḥ śabdena pratyāyyate sa ca [arthaḥ] |
(Vṛtti on Śṛṅgāra-prakāśa: 1.13)

“That which is caused to be understood by a śabda (word) [is artha [‘meaning’].”
