Śrī Śrī Vraja-rāja-sutāṣṭakam

Eight verses in praise of the Prince of Vraja.

श्रीश्रीव्रजराजसुताय नमः ।

śrī-śrī-vraja-rāja-sutāya namaḥ |

Obeisance unto the most beautiful Prince of Vraja.

नवनीरदनिन्दितकान्तिधरं
रससागरनागरभूपवरम् ।
शुभवङ्किमचारुशिखण्डशिखं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥१॥

nava-nīrada-nindita-kānti-dharaṁ
rasa-sāgara-nāgara-bhūpa-varam |
śubha-baṅkima-cāru-śikhaṇḍa-śikhaṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||1||

Bearing a luster that defames fresh clouds,
The beloved King of nāgaras,
An Ocean of rasa,
His charming peacock-plume crest pleasantly titled
(down to the left in adoration of Rādhā’s feet)—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.

भ्रुविशङ्कितवङ्किमशक्रधनुं
मुखचन्द्रविनिन्दितकोटिविधुम् ।
मृदुमन्दसुहास्यसुभाष्ययुतं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥२॥

bhru-viśaṅkita-vaṅkima-śakra-dhanuṁ
mukha-candra-vinindita-koṭi-vidhum |
mṛdu-manda-suhāsya-subhāṣya-yutaṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||2||

His eyebrows resembling rainbows, arched, suspecting,
The moon of his face completely defaming
[The brilliance of] Ten millions moons;
Exhibiting his fine speech
And his fine, gentle, and mild smile—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.

सुविकम्पदनङ्गसदङ्गधरं
व्रजवासिमनोहरवेशकरम् ।
भृशलाञ्छितनीलसरोजदृशं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥३॥

suvikampad-anaṅga-sad-aṅga-dharaṁ
vraja-vāsi-manohara-veśa-karam |
bhṛśa-lāñchita-nīla-saroja-dṛśaṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||3||

Bearing an excellent, very gently quivering figure of Anaṅga [Kāmadeva],
Wearing garb captivating to the minds of [all] the residents of Vraja,
Superbly endowed with blue lotus eyes—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.

अलकावलिमण्डितभालतटं
श्रुतिदोलितमाकरकुण्डलकम् ।
कटिवेष्टितपीतपटं सुधटं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥४॥

alakāvali-maṇḍita-bhāla-taṭaṁ
śruti-dolita-mākara-kuṇḍalakam |
kaṭi-veṣṭita-pīta-paṭaṁ sudhaṭaṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||4||

Curling locks adorning his forehead,
Makara earrings swaying on his ears,
A fine yellow dhoṭi wrapped about his waist—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.

कलनूपुरराजितचारुपदं
मणिरञ्जितगञ्जितभृङ्गमदम् ।
ध्वजवज्रझषाङ्कितपादयुगं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥५॥

kala-nūpura-rājita-cāru-padaṁ
maṇi-rañjita-gañjita-bhṛṅga-madam |
dhvaja-vajra-jhaṣāṅkita-pāda-yugaṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||5||

His charming stride
Embellished with tinkling anklets,
Illumined by gems,
And abuzz with inebriated bees,
His pair of feet
Marked with the flag, thunderbolt, and fish—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.

भृशचन्दनचर्चितचारुतनुं
मणिकौस्तुभगर्हितभानुतनुम् ।
व्रजबालशिरोमणिरूपधृतं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥६॥

bhṛśa-candana-carcita-cāru-tanuṁ
maṇi-kaustubha-garhita-bhānu-tanum |
vraja-bāla-śiromaṇi-rūpa-dhṛtaṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||6||

His charming figure smeared generously with sandalwood paste,
His Kaustubha jewel belittling the orb of the sun,
Bearing the form of the crest-jewel of Vraja’s youths—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.

सुरवृन्दसुवन्द्यमुकुन्दहरिं
सुरनाथशिरोमणिसर्व्वगुरुम् ।
गिरिधारिमुरारिपुरारिपरं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥७॥

sura-vṛnda-suvandya-mukunda-hariṁ
sura-nātha-śiromaṇi-sarva-gurum |
giridhāri-murāri-purāri-paraṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||7||

Most worshipable to the suras,
The Giver of mukti (Mukunda),
The Remover [of inauspiciousness] (Hari),
[Alt., the Captivator of the mind (Hari),]
The Crest-jewel of masters of the suras,
The Guru of all,
The Lifter of the mountain,
The Enemy of Mura,
The Superior of Purāri [i.e., Śiva]—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.

वृषभानुसुतावरकेलिपरं
रसराजशिरोमणिवेशधरम् ।
जगदीश्वरमीश्वरमीड्यवरं
भज कृष्णनिधिं व्रजराजसुतम् ॥८॥

vṛṣabhānu-sutā-vara-keli-paraṁ
rasa-rāja-śiromaṇi-veśa-dharam |
jagad-īśvaram īśvaram īḍya-varaṁ
bhaja kṛṣṇa-nidhiṁ vraja-rāja-sutam ||8||

Absorbed in fine play with the Daughter of Vṛṣabhānu,
Wearing the garb of the crest-jewel among kings of rasa,
The Īśvara of the universe,
The Īśvara [of one and all],
The dearmost Object of worship—
Worship the treasure Kṛṣṇa, the Prince of Vraja.
