नैव वाचा न मनसा प्राप्तुं शक्यो न चक्षुषा ।
अस्तीति ब्रुवतोऽन्यत्र कथं तदुपलभ्यते ॥

naiva vācā na manasā prāptuṁ śakyo na cakṣuṣā |
astīti bruvato’nyatra kathaṁ tad-upalabhyate ||
(Kaṭha Upaniṣad: 2.3.12)

“He [i.e., the Supreme Puruṣa] is attainable neither by speech, nor by the mind, nor by the eye. How can he be realized other than by one who says, ‘He is’ [i.e., who first of all has śraddhā in his existence]?”

Commentary

astīti bruvataḥ astitva-vādina āgamārthānusāriṇaḥ śraddadhānād … |
(Excerpt from Kaṭhopaniṣad-bhāṣya of Śaṅkarācārya)

“‘Than [by] one who says, ‘He is”’ (astīti bruvataḥ) refers to one who professes his [i.e., the Supreme Puruṣa’s] existence, that is, one who follows the meaning of the Āgamas [i.e., the śāstra] and has śraddhā [in that].”
