दृढभावनया त्यक्तपूर्वापरविचारणम् ।
यदादानं पदार्थस्य वासना सा प्रकीर्तिता ॥
dṛḍha-bhāvanayā tyakta-pūrvāpara-vicāraṇam |
yad ādānaṁ padārthasya vāsanā sā prakīrtitā ||
(Muktikā Upaniṣad: 2.56)
“[Mental] Clinging to an object out of strong fancy without prior or subsequent deliberation is said to be a vāsanā.”
Commentary
A vāsanā is defined here an impulsive and imprudent evocation of an object driven by a deep-set, repetitive fancy [for the object].
