Gītā-bhūṣaṇa-ṭīkā

ānukūlyasya saṅkalpaḥ prātikūlya-vivarjanam

ānukūlyasya saṅkalpaḥ prātikūlya-vivarjanam |
rakṣiṣyatīti viśvāso goptṛtve varaṇaṁ tathā ||
ātma-nikṣepa-kārpaṇye ṣaḍ-vidhā śaraṇāgatiḥ ||

“A resolve of favorability, rejection of unfavorability, conviction that he [i.e., Bhagavān] will protect, accepting [his] guardianship, pledging oneself [to him], and humility [alt., wretchedness, neediness, heartache] are the six aspects of śaraṇāgati.”

yaṁ sannyāsam iti prāhur yogaṁ taṁ viddhi pāṇḍava

yaṁ sannyāsam iti prāhur yogaṁ taṁ viddhi pāṇḍava |
na hy asannyasta-saṅkalpo yogī bhavati kaścana ||
(Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā: 6.2)

“Know that which they call renunciation (sannyāsa) to be yoga, O son of Pāṇḍu, since no one by whom intention has not been renounced becomes a yogī.”

idaṁ te nātapaskāya nābhaktāya kadācana |
na cāśuśrūṣave vācyaṁ na ca māṁ yo’bhyasūyati ||

(Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā: 18.67)

“[Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa:] Neither to someone who is neglectful of austerity, nor to a non-bhakta, nor to someone who does not wish to listen, nor to someone who casts aspersions on me is this [i.e., this śāstra, Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā] ever to be spoken.”

yat pṛthivyāṁ vrīhi-yavaṁ hiraṇyaṁ paśavaḥ striyaḥ |
nālam ekasya tat sarvam iti matvā śamaṁ vrajet ||

“All the rice, barley, gold, animals, and women on earth are not sufficient for one [person]. Deliberate on this and take to equanimity.”

naṣṭo mohaḥ smṛtir labdhā tvat-prasādān mayācyuta |
sthito’smi gata-sandehaḥ kariṣye vacanaṁ tava ||
(Bhagavad-gītā: 18.73)

“[Arjuna to Kṛṣṇa:] O Acyuta, by your grace, my misunderstanding is dispelled, and remembrance has been attained by me. I am steady, free from doubt. I shall follow your instruction.”

kaccid etac chrutaṁ pārtha tvayaikāgreṇa cetasā |
kaccid ajñāna-saṁmohaḥ pranaṣṭas te dhanaṁjaya ||
(Bhagavad-gītā: 18.72)

“O Pārtha, has this [i.e., the Gītā] been heard by you with a one-pointed mind? O Dhanañjaya, has your misunderstanding born of ignorance been fully dispelled?”

man-manā bhava mad-bhakto

man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru |
mām evaiṣyasi satyaṁ te pratijāne priyo’si me ||
(Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā: 18.65)

“Be of mind fixed on me, [be] my bhakta, [be] my worshipper. Offer obeisance to me. You will come to me alone. Truly, I promise you this, for you are dear to me.”

sarva-guhyatamaṁ bhūyaḥ

sarva-guhyatamaṁ bhūyaḥ śṛṇu me paramaṁ vacaḥ |
iṣṭo’si me dṛḍham iti tato vakṣyāmi te hitam ||
(Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā: 18.64)

“Again hear my supreme advice, most confidential of all. You are exceedingly dear to me. Thus, I will speak of [the highest] good for you.”

tasmāc chāstraṁ pramāṇaṁ

tasmāc chāstraṁ pramāṇaṁ te kāryākārya-vyavasthitau |
jñātvā śāstra-vidhānoktaṁ karma kartum ihārhasi ||
(Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā: 16.24)

“Therefore, śāstra is the pramāṇa [i.e., means of knowledge] in determining what is to be done and not to be done. By understanding the stated injunctions of the śāstra hereto [i.e., in regard to karma], you become fit to perform it.”

yaḥ śāstra-vidhim utsṛjya vartate kāma-cārataḥ |
na sa siddhim avāpnoti na sukhaṁ na parāṁ gatim ||
(Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā: 16.23)

“One who rejects the injunctions of śāstra and remains engaged in wilful behavior attains neither success, nor happiness, nor the supreme destination.”
