yadṛcchā-lābha-tuṣṭasya tejo viprasya vardhate

yadṛcchā-lābha-tuṣṭasya tejo viprasya vardhate |
tat praśāmyaty asantoṣād ambhasevāśuśukṣaṇiḥ ||
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 8.19.26)

“[Vāmanadeva to Bali Mahārāja:] The potency of a brāhmaṇa who is satisfied with that which is attained of its own accord increases, and that [i.e., that potency] is extinguished because of dissatisfaction like fire by water.”

puṁso’yaṁ saṁsṛter hetur asantoṣo’rtha-kāmayoḥ |
yadṛcchayopapannena santoṣo muktaye smṛtaḥ ||

“[Vāmanadeva to Bali Mahārāja:] This dissatisfaction with objects and enjoyment [of them] is the cause of a living being’s saṁsāra, and satisfaction with that which is attained of its own accord is known to lead to mukti.”

“Within the mind one should offer obeisance to and greatly honor [all] these beings, [considering,] ‘Bhagavān, Īśvara, has entered [all these beings] by means of impelling the jīvas [i.e., by virtue of his being the Inner Regulator (Antaryāmī), meaning, the Īśvara, within them].”

arhayed dāna-mānābhyāṁ maitryābhinnena cakṣuṣā ||

[Translation as per the Krama-sandarbha-ṭīkā:] “Therefore, with charity, respect, friendship, and eyes of non-difference, one should worship me, the Ātma of all beings, who have made my abode in all beings.”

ei se vaiṣṇava-dharma sabāre praṇati |
sei dharma-dhvajī yāra ithe nāhi rati ||
(Caitanya-bhāgavata: 3.3.29)

“Offering obeisances to everyone—this is Vaiṣṇava-dharma. One who has no affinity for this is [just] a dharma–flag-bearer [i.e., a pseudo follower of dharma who merely makes a show of following it but actually does not follow it at all].”

uttama hañā vaiṣṇava habe nirabhimāna |
jīve sammāna dibe jāni’ kṛṣṇa-adhiṣṭhāna ||
(Caitanya-caritāmṛta: 3.20.25)

“Although exalted, a Vaiṣṇava should be prideless and give respect to all jīvas, knowing them to be dwelling places of Kṛṣṇa.”

satyodakā śīla-taṭā dayormiḥ |
tatrābhiṣekaṁ kuru pāṇḍu-putra
na vāriṇā śuṣyati cāntarātmā ||
(Hitopadeśa: Sandhi, 93)

“The self is a river: discipline is its auspicious bathing places, truth its water, character its banks, and compassion its waves. Bath there, O son of Pāṇḍu. The inner self is not purified by water.”
