अत्रैव नरकः स्वर्ग इति मातः प्रचक्ष्यते ।
या यातना वै नारक्यस्ता इहाप्युपलक्षिताः ॥
atraiva narakaḥ svarga iti mātaḥ pracakṣyate |
yā yātanā vai nārakyas tā ihāpy upalakṣitāḥ ||
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam: 3.30.29)
“O mother, they say Naraka and Svarga exist [i.e., are experienced] here [i.e., in this plane] itself. Sufferings which are hellish are perceived here too.”
Commentary
na caitad asambhāvitam atrāpi dṛśyamānatvād ity āha—ataiveti |
(Bhāvārtha-dīpikā)
“And it is not that this is impossible [i.e., it is not impossible that there are hellish planes that are reached after death] on account of [hell (Narakas) and heaven (Svarga)] being visible even here [in this plane, i.e., on earth]. Thus, he says atraiva … [i.e., he speaks this verse].”
na caitad asambhāvitam atrāpi rāja-daṇḍe kāsāṁcit pratyavayava-kṛntanādi-yātanānāṁ tathā srak-candana-vanitādi-sukha-bhogānāṁ ca dṛśyamānatvād ity āha—atraiveti |

“And it is not that this is impossible [i.e., it is not impossible that there are hellish planes that are reached after death] on account of sufferings like complete dismemberment for some because of royal punishment and enjoyments of pleasures like garlands, sandalwood, and women being visible even here [in this plane, i.e., on earth]. Thus, he says atraiva … [i.e., he speaks this verse].”
