“May anyone of made up mind
Who by speech, mind, hearing, or limbs
Touches those plays or even places of yours even once
Daily attain in profusion
Worship with prema
Of your two feet shining with saffron
From the urns of the blessed gopīs’ breasts.”
Commentary
Śrī Sanātana Gosvāmīpāda explains in his commentary that in this verse Śrī Nārada prays for a second boon at Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s request (iti dvitīya-vara-prārthanam) and that this along with the boon he prayed for in the previous verse are very dear to Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s heart (tasyaiva tad-vara-dvayaṁ parama-hṛdyam) because they pertain to the people of the world attaining the blessed opportunity to hear names of his related specifically to his līlās in Vraja and to the people of the world attaining bhakti to him specifically as the Beloved of the gopīs, that is, attaining prema-bhakti to him that conduces to his intimate loving play with the gopīs. The mention of “anyone of made up mind” (kṛta-dhīḥ kaścid api) refers to any person, irrespective of caste, gender, and so on, who is of resolute mind, that is, who has faith in the plays and places of Śrī Kṛṣṇa (kṛta-dhīr niścita-matiḥ, tatra tatra viśvastaḥ sann ity arthaḥ, … kaścid api iti jāty-ādy-apekṣāṁ nirasyati). The “plays and places” mentioned here are the plays related to the lands in Vraja and the lands in Vraja themselves like blessed Vṛndāvana (tā Vraja-bhūmi-sambandhinīḥ krīḍāḥ, tā bhuvaḥ Śrī-Vṛndāvanādi-Vraja-bhūmīr api vā). These plays are touched with the limbs by touching Śrī Bhāgavata Mahāpurāṇa and other śāstras that described those plays (aṅgaiḥ krīḍā-sparśanaṁ nāma tat-tat-krīḍā-vijñāpaka-Śrī-Bhāgavata-mahāpurāṇādi-sparśanaṁ jñeyam), and these places are touched with the limbs by coming in connection with the dust situated at these places (aṅgais tat-sparśanaṁ ca tatratya-rajaḥ-samparka iti dik). These places are touched by speech, the mind, and hearing by means of praising, remembering, and hearing about the touch of those places (vaca-ādinā bhū-sparśanaṁ ca tat-kīrtanādi). Worship with prema is attainable just by such touch of these places, moreover, because praising and the like of the various plays of Śrī Kṛṣṇa that happen in these places is aptly accomplished just by coming in touch with these places since these places have the nature of being natural reminders of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, as is described by the Vraja-gopīs to Śrī Uddhava in SB 10.47.49, “O master, these rivers, hills, forest regions, cows, and flute sounds honored by Kṛṣṇa with the assistance of Saṅkarṣaṇa [during his time here in Vraja] again and again cause remembrance of the Son of King Nanda. Bata! Because of those abodes of beauty—his steps [i.e., foot-prints]—we are certainly unable to forget [him]” (tat-sparśanenāpi svata eva tat-tat-krīḍā-kīrtanādi-susiddheḥ sarvathā tāsāṁ Śrī-Kṛṣṇa-smāraka-svabhāvakatvāt, tathā ca daśama-skandhe—‘saric-chaila-vanoddeśā’ ity-ādi).
