svayam ācarate yasmād ācāryas tena kīrtitaḥ ||
(Vāyu Purāṇa)“One who grasps the meaning of the śāstra, establishes it in practice [i.e., teaches and engages others in practicing it], and personally practices it [in one’s own life] is renowned as an ācārya.”
